TANZANIA Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) Content Committee has suspended ‘Take One’ programme which is aired by Clouds Television for three month after violating broadcasting ethics.
Reading the judgment, the committees
Vice- Chairperson, Mr Joseph Mapunda said they have also issued a strong
warning to the city based channel for violating broadcasting services
regulations of 2005.
The committee also directed the Clouds
TV management to correct all shortfalls arise from the programme. The
programme has to be guided by content regulations.
“Clouds Television is thereby supposed
to evaluate ‘Take One’ programme and come up with better way to run it
which must be presented to TCRA for the approval before given permission
to run it again,” he noted.
He said the decision follows complaints
raised by a section of the community following airing of a programme on 8
September, this year between 21:00 and 22:00, in which the presenter,
Ms Zamaradi Mketema was interviewing Ms Gift Stanford alias Gigy Money
who was explaining how she earned money by sleeping with various men.
Mr Mapunda further added that the
presenter was posing questions which focused on sexual intercourse which
directed the interviewee mentioning names of men she had sexual
intercourse with, something which interfered with their private affairs
against the broadcasting services Act of 2005.
However, he said if they were not
satisfied with the judgment, they were free to appeal to Fair
Competition Tribunal in 30-days starting yesterday.
On July this year the same programme was
directed to apologise to viewers and Tanzanians in its bulletin for
five consecutive days following airing of a programme that advocated
gayism.
