The government has directed ministries to ensure that by February 28, this year, they move to Dodoma as per President John Magufuli’s directive, which he gave last year.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled Jenista Mhagama told journalists here yesterday that the government’s order must be implemented and by the stated date all officials in the ministries would have to be in Dodoma.
“These include ministers and their deputies as well as permanent secretaries,” Mhagama stressed.
The minister gave emphasis after opening the annual general meeting of all members of SACCOs under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
She said that there were no changes that had been made by the government about transferring its headquarters to Dodoma, urging people involved to do so before the end of next month.
Mhagama said the government had managed to inspect the construction of various government infrastructures, those under construction and the completed ones, which she said were ready for use by respective departments.
“There is no problem with staff office space for all ministries, because buildings have been completed and are in good condition and ready to be used,” she said.
She said President Magufuli’s order must be implemented to ensure the country transfers all government offices from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, which was designated the capital by the First Phase government led by the late President Julius Nyerere in 1973.
However, the implementation of Dodoma as the capital was affected by the Kagera war in 1978, after the country’s economy faced instability for a long time.
