President Magufuli |
PRESIDENT Magufuli has pledged 12bn/- for the construction of
National Election Committee headquarters, which he proposed to be built in
Dodoma. The money comes from NEC own saving from 2015 General Election that was
handed over to the president early this month.
President said when receiving the General Election
report from NEC at an event held today at Diamond Jubilee in Dar es Salaam.
President Magufuli also thanked the Commission for the
job well done. He also thanks political parties, security forces, and the media
for their efforts in making sure that the election was peaceful and
accountable.
“Many of the observers from outside commended that the
election was fair and free, except very few, who for them, in order an election
to be free, the ruling party must lose, but if the ruling part wins, the
election to them is unfair,” Dr Magufuli said.
The president asked the opposition side to stop
politicking around so that he as the newly elected president can get enough
time to fulfill his promise to the electorate.
“I would not like to see any one holding me back from
fulfilling my pledges to my voters. I would not like to see any one holding me
back from fulfilling my pledges to my voters”, repeated the president.
He added: “In every country in the world, even those
which are highly democratically advanced, after election, the politics are
ceased and people start working to deliver and develop their country … every
day politics, politics, when will people get time to cultivate?”.
President Magufuli also assured the retired president
that they will stay in peace, regardless of all the words that people have been
throwing against them.
“Making the retired presidents live well is my duty,
no one will disturb you, you have been doing a commendable job, but as Ben
Carson, prominent American author once said “Even if you dance on waters,
haters will accuse you of raising the dust”.
Earlier in his speech Judge Damian Lubuva said that
after the commission had finished working for election, they are now focused to
the referendum for the new constitution which is to be resumed any time from
now.
